Alex Melvin is the President and CEO of Rural King, a privately owned farm and home retailer with 133 store locations across 13 states. Rural King is a third-generation family-owned business, founded in 1960 by Alex’s Great Uncle, Kermit Speer and his business partner Keith Beaird in Mattoon, IL. As Rural King began to grow, Kermit brought on his nephews, Gary Melvin (Alex’s father) and Bruce Speer, who later became owners of the company. Alex and his siblings grew up in Rural King, helping with everything from sweeping out the warehouse to setting up new stores. Today, Alex and his wife Meghan keep these family traditions and love of the rural lifestyle alive through sharing them with their six children. In 2021, Alex and Meghan became the sole owners of the company which they lead through their strong faith, values, and passion to serve rural America, their associates, and the customers of Rural King.
